What is Group Therapy?
Group therapy provides a space for individuals to come together, share their experiences, and engage in meaningful dialogue under the guidance of trained professionals. It’s a powerful therapeutic approach that allows people to connect with others who may be going through similar struggles, providing a sense of community, understanding, and support. At Widening Circles, we offer a variety of group therapy options designed to help you heal, grow, and thrive.
Our Unique Approach to Group Therapy
We believe in a holistic, integrative approach to group therapy that empowers each participant. Our therapeutic groups are not just about addressing issues— they’re about building resilience, creating lasting connections, and fostering personal growth. Our facilitators are experienced professionals who create a safe and collaborative environment where each person’s voice is valued.
At Widening Circles, we integrate a range of therapeutic modalities, from mindfulness and recovery planning to neurofeedback and psychedelic integration. This diversity ensures that each participant can find the right approach to help them achieve their healing and wellness goals.

Group Therapy in the Heartwood IOP
In our Heartwood Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), we offer a wide variety of group therapy options that support patients on their recovery journey. From expressive arts to psychedelic integration, each group is carefully crafted to address different aspects of mental health, ensuring a comprehensive treatment experience.
Somatics
Somatics is a modality that centers on the experience of being present in your physical body as an act of healing or integration. Somatics honors the experience of the physical body as being the primary place of experience for most people and questions why it has received the least attention in healing from the effects of trauma. “You only need to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves” as Mary Oliver writes. Through the use of breath, paying attention to feelings and sensations and being able to honor the ways our bodies seek to keep us safe, whole, protected and well we find our way back to ourselves. Somatics is a large field of inquiry and may require mindful, non-judgemental attention and at other times, you may be asked to pay less attention and just forget yourself in movement. Somatics can be used to release, integrate, honor, ground into, move through, enliven and calm experiences. Mostly, at Widening Circles, we come to Somatics as a way to support healing relationship to self, others and the natural world.
